St Lucian and Caribbean businesses stand to reap great benefits from e-marketing if only more businesses would realize the potential of this marketing strategy. In fact of all the OECS countries, studies show that St Lucia has the lowest penetration of businesses on the Internet. This is according to director of Advanced Intellectual Methods, Leslie Collymore. Mr Collymore was at the time addressing attendees of a free business seminar presented by GlaceGrafix at the Bay Gardens Inn conference room on Monday.

According to Mr Collymore, “There is a lag between the developed countries like Europe and the US and the Third World countries like the Caribbean. The Internet is very young so there is still a lot of scope for development especially in the lesser-developed countries. The Web can close that gap and make business better. President of GlaceGrafix, Keitha Glace, says the seminar was created to introduce people to the multitude of services that GlaceGrafix offers. These services include Web site development, graphic design, animation, multimedia presentations, search engine optimization and e-marketing. GlaceGrafix is a Miami based company which, in conjunction with Advanced Intellectual Methods, will launch a team here in St Lucia.

The benefits of developing an effective web presence are numerous. It’s cost effective and far-reaching. “The Internet is the largest communication medium in the world right now. It’s the most cost effective right now. For instance if you compare the cost of having a Web site and doing print advertising the cost of a website is less and the payback is greater over a longer period of time,” said Collymore.
